Lacquerwares

Yun-de, gracefully translating to lacquerware in Burmese, embodies the artistry known as Pan yun (ပန်းယွန်း).

Derived from the sap of the varnish tree, or Thitsee, thriving in the untamed woodlands of Myanmar, this lacquer is initially straw-colored, metamorphosing into a profound black hue upon contact with the air. When delicately brushed or expertly coated, it manifests into a resilient, glossy surface, demonstrating a commendable resistance to the influences of both moisture and heat.

At the heart of the lacquerware realm lies Bagan, a venerable epicenter where this craft has been meticulously honed for nearly two centuries.
