Natural-Dye Fabric

How to dye fabrics naturally

The creation of natural-dyed cotton products in Myanmar encapsulates a holistic approach—blending time-honored techniques, indigenous botanical resources, and a commitment to environmental consciousness. The resulting textiles not only showcase the artistic prowess of the makers but also embody a sustainable and culturally rich legacy.

Burmese Lacquerware

How lacquerware are made in Myanmar

Lacquerware production in Myanmar is a meticulous art form deeply ingrained in the country’s cultural heritage. The process begins with harvesting the sap of the varnish tree, known as Thitsee, found in Myanmar’s lush forests. This straw-colored sap undergoes a transformation into a lustrous black hue when exposed to air. Artisans then apply multiple coats of lacquer onto meticulously crafted bamboo or wood forms, each layer requiring patient curing. The intricate designs are meticulously etched or painted by skilled hands.
